A Few Disclaimers on Pricing
Sewing, and especially alterations are specific to each unique task–meaning that no two jobs will necessarily have the same prices. The pricing of each job is up to my discretion as the seamstress and considers but is not limited to such factors as the type of material involved, consumption of materials, and my time. For instance a hem on a dress with slippery fabric that can’t be pressed is going to take considerably longer than a hem with material that can be pressed to hold its’ form. Or a dress with a rolled hem uses quite a bit more thread than a standard hem. Sequins break needles. These are just a few examples, but rest assured that it is part of my job to include this in the quote I will give you. When the particulars of a job do not allow me to quote a price prior to completion (perhaps an extensive alteration that includes a bit of problem solving) this will be discussed prior to a mutual agreement and the commencement of work.
Alterations Expectations
Alterations and creating “from scratch” have different expectations with the final product. Altering or modifying an existing, pre-sewn item will have an inherently less seamless result. Sewing requires that things be put together in specific order to achieve a product and with alterations it is not always feasible to work back down to a base layer for corrections. Any final product that I alter or modify will be guaranteed to meet our pre-discussed expectations.
Dance Costumes
Any alterations requests made to a dance costume MUST be pre-approved by the studio first and foremost.
Timing
The timing of your job depends greatly on the scope of what is being asked and where it falls in the priorities of my scheduling. This is why I request that when you are asking for a quote or to book that you provide the date you need your request completed by. It helps me plan and ensure that I deliver on time. There will be a rush fee if you request a turn around on an alteration that is shorter than 5 days. All alterations requested that do not allow for at least 5 days for turn around are subject to a rush fee of $5/ day. I am also a very busy mom, and this protects the quality of my work when I have an appropriate amount of time to source needed materials, plan, and execute.
